This may include recipient lists, delivery information, milestone dates, gifting history, product preferences, or dietary preferences.

Depending on what a customer provides, this information could reveal or suggest information that may be considered sensitive under certain privacy laws.

Northstar uses this information to provide the requested gifting service and for related customer-service and recordkeeping purposes.

Please provide only the information reasonably necessary for us to fulfill the request. Do not include unnecessary medical information or other highly sensitive personal information in gift notes or preference fields.

5. How We Disclose Information

We may disclose personal information to companies that help us operate our business, including:

  • Payment processors.

These providers may receive information only as reasonably necessary to perform services for Northstar or as otherwise permitted by law.

Business Transactions

If Northstar is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring, sale of assets, or similar transaction, personal information may be disclosed as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law.

Legal and Safety Purposes

We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to:

  • Comply with law, regulation, subpoena, court order, or other legal process.
  • Respond to lawful governmental requests.
  • Investigate fraud or security incidents.
  • Enforce agreements.
  • Protect the rights, safety, and property of Northstar, our customers, recipients, employees, or others.

6. Selling or Sharing Personal Information

Northstar does not sell personal information for monetary payment.

Certain privacy laws use the terms “sale,” “sharing,” or “targeted advertising” more broadly and may include some disclosures involving advertising or analytics technologies.

If our use of such technologies is considered a sale, sharing, or targeted advertising under a law that applies to you and Northstar, you may have the right to opt out.

Northstar does not use gift-recipient information provided for order fulfillment for unrelated third-party marketing.

7. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We may use several types of cookies or similar technologies.

Essential Technologies

These help operate core functions such as:

  • Shopping carts.
  • Checkout.
  • Account login.
  • Security.
  • Fraud prevention.
  • Site preferences.

Analytics Technologies

These may help us understand how visitors use the Site and identify ways to improve it.

Marketing Technologies

Where enabled, these may help us measure marketing campaigns or present relevant advertising.

Campaign Tracking Links and QR Codes

Some of our ads, mailings, signs, and QR codes use short links at go.northstargift.com. When you use one, we set a small first-party cookie so we can tell which ad brought you to us and whether it led to an order or inquiry. We use this only to measure how well our advertising campaigns work, nothing else. It is not shared with or sold to anyone, and it is not used to build a profile of you or to show you ads elsewhere.

  • The visitor cookie lasts up to 12 months; the campaign it records counts for 30 days.
  • We do not store your IP address. We keep only a scrambled (one-way hashed) version, used to filter out duplicate and automated visits.
  • You can block or delete these cookies in your browser at any time; the store works the same without them.

You can manage many cookie technologies through your browser settings. Disabling certain cookies may affect Site functionality.

Where applicable law requires additional consent or opt-out controls, we will provide them.

8. Email and Marketing Choices

You may choose to subscribe to Northstar emails containing special offers, seasonal products, company news, and other information.

You may unsubscribe at any time by using the unsubscribe link in a marketing email.

Even after you unsubscribe from marketing, we may continue to send non-promotional messages related to:

  • Orders.
  • Deliveries.
  • Accounts.
  • Customer-service requests.
  • Refunds.
  • Security.
  • Other transactions you request.

We do not automatically add gift recipients to our marketing list simply because someone sends them a Northstar gift.

9. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including to:

  • Fulfill orders.
  • Maintain accounts.
  • Provide recurring gifting services.
  • Maintain business and tax records.
  • Resolve disputes.
  • Prevent fraud.
  • Enforce agreements.
  • Comply with legal obligations.

Retention periods may vary depending on the type of information and the relationship involved.

Corporate recipient information maintained for recurring gifting programs may be retained while the program remains active or until the corporate customer asks us to update or remove it, subject to legal and operational requirements.

10. Information Security

Northstar uses reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, acquisition, destruction, use, alteration, or disclosure.

Our security measures may include access controls, encryption, secure communications, system monitoring, authentication controls, and security practices appropriate to the nature of the information involved.

No website, network, transmission method, or information-storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

11. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live and which privacy laws apply, you may have rights concerning your personal information.

These may include the right to:

  • Know whether we process your personal information.
  • Request access to personal information we maintain about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate personal information.
  • Request deletion of certain personal information.
  • Obtain a portable copy of certain information.
  • Opt out of certain targeted advertising.
  • Opt out of certain sales or sharing of personal information.
  • Limit certain uses of sensitive personal information.
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
  • Appeal certain decisions regarding a privacy request.

These rights vary by jurisdiction and may be subject to exceptions.

We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. Authorized agents may submit requests where permitted by law, subject to appropriate verification.

Northstar will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights provided by applicable law.

12. How to Submit a Privacy Request

To ask a privacy question or exercise an applicable privacy right, contact:

privacy@northstargift.com

You may also contact us by phone at:

(224) 836-7444

Please describe your request and provide enough information for us to identify the relevant account or information.

For security reasons, do not send passwords, complete payment-card numbers, Social Security numbers, or other unnecessary sensitive information in a privacy request.

13. Opt-Out Preference Signals

Some browsers or extensions allow users to transmit automated privacy preference signals.

Where applicable law requires Northstar to recognize a legally valid opt-out preference signal, we will process that signal in accordance with applicable law.

14. Children’s Privacy

Northstar's Site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed to children under 13.

We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 through the Site.

If we learn that personal information has been collected directly from a child under 13 in a manner prohibited by law, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

A child may, of course, be the recipient of a gift purchased by an adult. Information supplied by the purchaser for the purpose of delivering that gift is used for fulfillment and related purposes.

15. Third-Party Websites and Services

Our Site may contain links to or integrations with third-party services.

Those companies maintain their own privacy practices, and this Privacy Policy does not govern information collected directly by third-party websites or services.

We encourage you to review their privacy policies when interacting with them.

16. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our services, technology, business practices, or legal obligations.

When we update the Policy, we will revise the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page.

If required by law, we will provide additional notice regarding material changes.
